Meta is introducing a new Meta Account system to streamline user logins and management across its diverse range of applications and devices. This initiative aims to simplify the user experience, which has become complex with separate accounts for services like Facebook, WhatsApp, and Meta Quest devices.
The new system will allow users to set up a single password that works across their entire Meta ecosystem. For enhanced security, these logins will also support Passkeys, utilizing biometric authentication such as fingerprints or facial recognition. The Meta Account will provide security recommendations, including multi-factor authentication and login alerts.
This unified approach extends to parental supervision. Parents will be able to manage settings for teens across Instagram, Facebook, Messenger, and Meta Horizon from a single Family Center dashboard. While app-specific settings remain independent, core account management like passwords and two-factor authentication will be centralized.
Meta emphasizes that users are not required to link all their accounts and can choose to maintain separate logins if preferred. They also retain the flexibility to add or remove accounts from their Meta Account at any time during the rollout, which is expected to take place over the next year.
