Mercedes-AMG is entering the full-size SUV segment with its first entirely in-house developed electric model, the GT. This new vehicle draws on engineering expertise from both Mercedes and the AMG Formula 1 program.
The Mercedes-AMG GT will be available in GT 53, 55, and 63 variants, with all models slated for a summer 2027 arrival in U.S. dealerships as 2028 models.
The top-tier GT 63 variant is a performance marvel, featuring three axial flux motors that produce a combined 1153 horsepower and 1475 lb-ft of torque. This immense power propels the nearly 6,000-pound SUV from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.4 seconds.
Powering this electric beast is a 128-kWh battery pack utilizing directly cooled cylindrical cells, a technology adapted from AMG's Formula 1 efforts to ensure optimal performance and efficiency. The battery system supports rapid charging, capable of adding up to 280 miles of range in only ten minutes.
The GT SUV's construction features a sophisticated body architecture combining aluminum, steel, and fiber-reinforced composites, designed to balance rigidity, weight, and safety. Advanced features like active pitch and roll stabilization and an active aerodynamic system further enhance its performance and efficiency.
