Bungie's Iron Fist Against Marathon Cheaters
24 Feb
Summary
- Permanent bans will be issued for cheating in Marathon.
- Dedicated servers will manage all player actions for security.
- BattlEye, a kernel-level anti-cheat, will be implemented.

Bungie has declared a strict stance against cheating in its forthcoming extraction shooter, Marathon, slated for release on March 5, 2026. The developer announced that any individual found cheating or developing cheats will receive a permanent ban from the game, with no second chances offered. However, a system for appealing these bans will be in place.
To bolster security and ensure fair play, Marathon's design incorporates dedicated servers that will maintain authoritative control over all player movements, actions, and inventory management. This server-side authority aims to prevent exploits such as teleportation or damage manipulation. Furthermore, a "Fog of War" feature will limit player visibility to specific map areas, thereby combating wall hacks and similar cheats.
The game will also employ BattlEye, a kernel-level anti-cheat system utilized in other popular titles like Fortnite and Destiny 2. Bungie has also assured players that in cases of disconnection, the game will allow for seamless reconnection to ongoing matches. If a reconnection is not possible due to server issues, Bungie will attempt to return players' starting gear.
