Malware Data Stacks Higher Than Eiffel Tower
14 May
Summary
- vx-underground stores 30TB of malware, stacking to 2.5 feet.
- VirusTotal holds 31 petabytes, stacking over 2,600 feet.
- VirusTotal's data pile is nearly three times the Eiffel Tower.

Malware research group vx-underground reports an archive of approximately 30 terabytes of data. This collection is considered crucial for training detection models and understanding evolving cyber threats.
In comparison, VirusTotal's online service has accumulated about 31 petabytes of user-contributed malware samples. To visualize this scale, if using standard 1 terabyte internal hard drives, vx-underground's 30 terabytes would stack to roughly 2.5 feet.
VirusTotal's 31 petabytes, however, would require stacking approximately 31,744 hard drives. This immense pile would reach an impressive 2,645 feet, exceeding the 1,083-foot height of the Eiffel Tower and nearly matching the 2,722-foot Burj Khalifa.
