macOS 27 Golden Gate has been released, bringing substantial enhancements to the user experience, primarily centered around an updated Siri AI and significant design overhauls. The new Siri mirrors its iOS counterpart but leverages Mac's unique context to offer more sophisticated assistance, including summarizing information and answering questions based on visible content.
Users can now direct Siri to analyze specific parts of their screen using Apple's Visual Intelligence features. This allows for targeted queries or image searches based on selected content, with contextual shortcuts like 'add to contact' or 'look up location' appearing as needed.
Spotlight Search also receives a boost, integrating Siri for web-based answers and enabling searches within specific contexts like Applications, Files, or Clipboard. Siri's integration with user data extends its search capabilities to emails, messages, and files, simplifying tasks like retrieving membership IDs or trip details.
The system now suggests file names contextually during downloads or renaming. Beyond Siri, macOS 27 Golden Gate features new Liquid Glass icons, an adjustable design slider, and an improved diffusion effect for window movement. App windows display a consistent corner radius, and sidebars are now edge-to-edge with colorful icons.
Additional features include enhanced child safety controls, shared cross-platform photo albums, an updated eraser tool, better email search, app resizing for iPhone mirroring, and calendar event suggestions. The update is available for all Apple Silicon Macs from 2020 onwards.
