17 Feb
Summary
- New macOS feature limits battery charge to preserve MacBook health.
- Users can set a hard limit between 80% and 100% in 5% increments.
- The feature is expected in the upcoming macOS Tahoe 26.4 update.

Apple is preparing to introduce a new battery charge limiting feature for MacBooks, designed to enhance long-term battery health. This upcoming functionality, discovered in the macOS Tahoe 26.4 beta, aims to mitigate the negative effects of consistently charging to full capacity.
The feature, named Charge Limit, operates independently of the existing Optimized Battery Charging. It allows users to establish a fixed maximum charge level, selectable in 5% increments between 80% and 100%. This hard limit ensures the battery will not exceed the chosen threshold unless manually overridden by the user.
