Apple has announced significant updates to its MacBook Air and MacBook Pro lines, featuring the new M5 Pro and M5 Max chips for the Pro models and the M5 chip for the Air. A notable enhancement for the MacBook Air is the increase in base storage from 256GB to 512GB, coupled with up to twice as fast storage performance compared to previous M4 models.
This storage boost results in a price adjustment, with the 13-inch MacBook Air now starting at $1,099 and the 15-inch model at $1,299. The M5 chip is available in two configurations for the Air, offering 8 or 10 GPU cores, with upgrades available for RAM and storage tiers. Internally, the M5 chip includes four 'super cores' and six efficiency cores, supported by a new Wi-Fi and Bluetooth chip.
These new MacBook Air models are available for pre-order on March 4th and will be in stores on March 11th. These announcements are part of Apple's series of releases this week, leading up to a special event on Wednesday. The company has also unveiled an updated iPad Air, new MacBook Pros, and updated Studio Displays.
