E-Scooter Demand Surges 50% in London Trials
4 Mar
Summary
- Rental e-scooter trips in London increased over 50% in one year.
- Serious injuries are rare, with no fatalities recorded in the trial.
- Concerns remain regarding pavement parking and pedestrian safety.

Rental e-scooter usage in London experienced a substantial increase of over 50% in the year leading up to September 2025, with more than two million trips recorded. This surge in demand comes as the e-scooter trial scheme, a collaboration between Transport for London (TfL) and London Councils, continues to expand across the capital.
The trial, now in its fourth year, has seen rental e-scooters become available in a third of London's boroughs. TfL data indicates that 95% of trips conclude in designated parking bays, with serious injuries occurring in only 0.0007% of journeys and no fatalities reported. This suggests a successful integration into the city's transport infrastructure.
