Summary
- Live Translate now available on iOS and Android in 12 countries.
- The AI feature translates conversations in real-time using headphones.
- It preserves the original speaker's tone, emphasis, and cadence.

Google announced that its AI-powered Live Translate feature is now available on iOS and Android devices in an expanded list of countries. Previously exclusive to Android in a few select nations, the feature now supports users in the United States, India, Mexico, Germany, Spain, France, Nigeria, Italy, the United Kingdom, Japan, Bangladesh, and Thailand.
This capability effectively turns any pair of headphones into a one-way, real-time translation tool. Leveraging Google's Gemini AI, Live Translate preserves the speaker's original tone, emphasis, and cadence, enhancing conversational understanding. Google suggests practical uses such as following conversations with multilingual family members or comprehending announcements during international travel.
The feature works with any headphones and supports over 70 languages. Users can access it by opening the Google Translate app and selecting the 'Live Translate' option. This expansion coincides with Google's broader rollout of its AI-powered conversational search feature, Search Live, globally, making it accessible in over 200 countries and territories.
