Founded in 2018, Light Lens Lab (LLL) has earned acclaim for its M-mount lenses, which are meticulously recreated versions of rare Leica optics. These lenses closely emulate the design and optical quality of their high-priced counterparts, often achieving a 98% match for a mere fraction of the cost, with some selling for around $1,500 compared to vintage originals that can exceed $25,000. Founder Mr. Zhou, a passionate Leica enthusiast, discussed the company's origins and future plans in a recent 20-minute video interview. LLL's creations are born from a desire to replicate the exceptional performance of small, high-quality optics, following paths laid out by Leica. The company has successfully recreated lenses like the rare double aspherical Summilux 35mm f/1.4 and a 1966 Noctilux, even recreating discontinued glass types with the help of scientific institutions. Beyond vintage recreations, LLL is also remaking modern Leica lenses and exploring other iconic lens series, such as those from Angenieux, Cooke, and Dallmeyer. Mr. Zhou also revealed ambitious plans for reworking a traditional Chinese TLR camera and producing their own film, aiming to achieve the comprehensive scope of established brands like Leica and Fujifilm. This dedication to craftsmanship and quality has earned LLL broad recognition among photography enthusiasts.
