Lexar is set to release the Muse Ultra-Slim Portable SSD later this year, aiming for industry-leading thinness. This new drive will be available in 512GB and 1TB capacities, measuring an astonishing 3.8mm at its thickest point and tapering to a mere 1mm at the edges. This design is achieved through high-density NAND stacking and a custom ultra-thin PCB architecture.
The drive doesn't feature a traditional USB-C port. Instead, it utilizes a proprietary SnapLink cable that magnetically attaches to a pogo-pin connector. While this contributes to the sleek profile, it introduces a reliance on this specific cable and a potential risk of accidental disconnection during file transfers.
Performance is not compromised, with read speeds reaching up to 1,050MB/s and write speeds of 1,000MB/s. This makes the Muse SSD capable of recording 4K Apple ProRes video at up to 120fps when connected to a compatible iPhone. For mobile video recording, users will need to employ an included magnetic sleeve to mount the SSD to their device, which adds some thickness.
