Passwords End in '2024': Leaks Reveal Shocking Trends
8 Dec
Summary
- One in 200 leaked passwords in 2023-2025 ended with '2024'.
- Commonly used passwords include 'love' and digit sequences like 12345.
- Over half of passwords from recent leaks were found in older data sets.

Recent analysis of global data leaks spanning 2023 through 2025 has uncovered alarming trends in user password habits. Findings indicate that one out of every 200 compromised passwords concluded with the year '2024,' highlighting a reliance on predictable patterns. The English word 'love' also emerged as a frequent component in insecure passwords.
Beyond simple words, numerical sequences such as '12345' were highly prevalent. Furthermore, approximately 10% of all leaked passwords incorporated numbers resembling dates, ranging from 1990 to 2025. This widespread use of predictable and easily guessable information poses a significant risk to user security.
Compounding these concerns, a staggering 54% of passwords discovered in leaks from 2025 had previously appeared in earlier data breaches. This suggests a lack of password updates and reuse across multiple platforms. Cybersecurity experts emphasize that short passwords, often seven characters or less, can be cracked in mere seconds, underscoring the urgent need for stronger, unique password practices.
