Johnny Ball Admits Digital Struggles, Urges Online Skills

Veteran television presenter Johnny Ball, 87, has shared his personal struggles with mastering online tasks, admitting it previously took him days to complete simple digital activities like purchasing train tickets, often necessitating assistance from his daughter. He pointed out that many individuals in his age group find "digital admin" daunting, with tasks like booking GP appointments or managing online banking proving overly complicated.

New research supports Ball's experience, indicating that over-65s who lack digital confidence spend approximately 25% more time on online administration. A significant portion also struggle with or abandon tasks like arranging doctor's appointments due to complexity. Ball, known for his educational science and maths shows, is now collaborating with BT Group and the charity AbilityNet to promote free digital skills training aimed at empowering older adults and enhancing their independence.
