Humanoid Ambulance: A First for Japan
17 Sep
Summary
- A special maintenance van responds to broken humanoid robots.
- The ambulance carries diagnostic tools, spare parts, and replacement units.
- The service is currently exclusive to robots deployed by GMO AIR.

Tokyo has introduced its first "humanoid ambulance," a novel maintenance van developed by GMO Internet Group. This specialized vehicle is dispatched to provide on-the-spot repairs for any humanoid robots that malfunction. Equipped with diagnostic tools, spare parts, and engineers, the ambulance aims to minimize service disruptions.
If a robot cannot be repaired roadside, the ambulance carries a spare humanoid unit ready to take over. The broken robot is then transported to GMO's Humanoid Lab in Shibuya for further servicing. This initiative is a direct response to previous experiences where robot downtime impacted services.
The service currently covers only humanoids deployed by GMO AI & Robotics Trading, with deployment decisions made case-by-case. This development aligns with Japan's broader AI Robotics Strategy, which aims for significant growth in the global robot market by 2040.
