17 Apr
Summary
- Voice Isolation enhances voice clarity by blocking background noise on calls.
- The feature was released for regular phone calls with iOS 16.4 in 2023.
- Wide Spectrum amplifies background sounds, available for FaceTime calls.

Apple introduced Voice Isolation to enhance the audio quality of regular phone calls. This feature, available since iOS 16.4 in 2023, actively reduces distracting background noises, ensuring your voice is heard more clearly. For a period following its activation, Voice Isolation remains enabled for all subsequent calls unless deliberately deactivated by the user.
Previously, Apple had integrated Wide Spectrum for FaceTime calls with iOS 15 in 2021. Unlike Voice Isolation, Wide Spectrum is designed to amplify ambient sounds, proving useful in group calls where multiple participants need to be heard. Currently, Wide Spectrum is exclusive to FaceTime, though its presence in call controls suggests potential future availability for standard phone calls.
Users can toggle Voice Isolation on or off during an active call. Within the same call controls, options for Wide Spectrum and Automatic mic modes are also accessible. The Automatic mode intelligently selects the most suitable setting, employing Voice Isolation for receiver-based calls and Standard mode for speakerphone usage, adapting to various calling scenarios.
