iPhone Ultra: Slim Design Sacrifices Features
6 Sep
Summary
- Foldable iPhone Ultra may lack Face ID for a slimmer profile.
- Telephoto camera and Action button are also rumored omissions.
- Physical SIM card slot is expected to be replaced by eSIM globally.

Apple is poised to launch its first foldable device, potentially named the iPhone Ultra, around September 9. This highly anticipated device may forgo several features commonly found on iPhones to maintain a slim profile. It is widely rumored that the iPhone Ultra will not include Face ID, opting instead for a fingerprint sensor integrated into the power button.
Further omissions are expected to include a telephoto camera, leaving the device with a dual-lens system similar to some competitor foldables. The Action button, introduced on recent Pro models, and the Mute switch may also be absent. Dummy units suggest a lack of MagSafe magnets, though some analysts believe MagSafe will be included.
The iPhone Ultra is also expected to completely replace the physical SIM card slot with eSIM technology worldwide, mirroring the iPhone Air's design. This move, while anticipated for some regions, will be a notable change for international markets still accustomed to physical SIM cards. These potential feature cuts raise questions about the device's value despite its premium pricing.
