A dangerous scam is circulating online, attempting to trick individuals into revealing personal and financial information through fake advertisements for the iPhone Duo. These ads falsely claim that preorders are open, enticing users with the prospect of saving money. However, clicking on these fraudulent links can lead to the compromise of older iPhones via the DarkSword exploit chain.
This exploit targets devices running iOS versions 18.4 through 18.6.2. Once a user visits the malicious webpage, the exploit can begin stealing sensitive data, including passwords, messages, call history, photos, and cryptocurrency wallet information, even without user interaction. The scam page is designed to look legitimate, featuring Apple's branding and language.
To avoid this scam, users should only pre-order devices through official Apple channels or reputable retailers. Keeping iPhones updated with the latest iOS software, specifically iOS 26, is crucial for protection. Automatic updates should also be enabled. If a user suspects they have fallen victim, restarting the iPhone can stop the data-stealing payload from returning.
