iPhone 18: Mechanical Camera & 2nm Chip Arrive
5 May
Summary
- iPhone 18 Pro series will feature a 2nm A20 chip for better performance.
- A mechanical variable aperture camera and smaller Dynamic Island are expected.
- iPhone 18 Pro Max may get a 5,100mAh battery and stable Indian pricing.

Apple's iPhone 18 Pro series, slated for a September 2026 release, is poised for a substantial hardware overhaul. Leaks indicate the integration of Apple's first 2nm processor, the A20 Pro, which is expected to deliver a 15% performance increase and up to 30% better power efficiency. A novel mechanical variable aperture system is also anticipated for the main camera, allowing for physical adjustments to light intake and depth of field. This feature, along with a new three-layer stacked image sensor from Samsung, aims to elevate photography capabilities, particularly in challenging lighting conditions.
The front display is also expected to see a significant change, with a 35% smaller Dynamic Island due to the flood illuminator moving beneath the glass. This could reduce the cutout size to approximately 14mm-15mm. The iPhone 18 Pro Max is rumored to incorporate a larger 5,100mAh to 5,200mAh battery, potentially increasing its weight beyond 240 grams. Despite these substantial component upgrades and rising costs, Apple is expected to maintain stable pricing in India, with the Pro models launching around INR 1,34,900.
