Apple Dominates Global Sales: iPhone 17 Leads Pack

In the second quarter of 2026, the iPhone 17 emerged as the world's best-selling smartphone, capturing 6% of global sales. Its stablemates, the iPhone 17 Pro Max and iPhone 17 Pro, secured the second and third positions, respectively, completing an all-Apple top three for the second consecutive quarter. Samsung's Galaxy 26 Ultra led the Android market and was the top-selling Android phone globally, a first for an ultra-premium device in the June quarter.

Samsung also had the Galaxy A07 4G and Galaxy 17 5G as the next best-selling Android phones. The top 10 smartphone list exclusively featured devices from Apple and Samsung. Apple's iPhone 17e and iPhone 16, alongside Samsung's Galaxy A17 4G and Galaxy S26, rounded out the top sellers. Collectively, these top 10 devices accounted for 26% of global smartphone sales in Q2 2026.

Significant factors contributing to the iPhone 17e's strong performance included its MagSafe wireless charging support and an upgrade to 256GB of storage, maintained at the $599 price point of the iPhone 16e. This sales report coincides with a leadership transition at Apple, as Tim Cook prepares to step down as CEO on September 1, 2026. He will be succeeded by John Ternus, the current head of hardware. An upcoming Apple event on September 9, 2026, is anticipated to feature the unveiling of the iPhone 18 Pro models and the company's first foldable iPhone.
