7 Oct
Summary
- iOS 27 introduces inline replies and Tapback reactions to Messages.
- These upgrades significantly improve cross-platform texting with Android.
- Some iMessage features are still missing for Android users.
Apple's Messages app is set to receive significant enhancements with the upcoming iOS 27 update. Two of the most frequently requested features for Rich Communication Services (RCS) are finally being implemented: true inline replies and proper Tapback reactions.
These additions are particularly impactful for group chats involving both iPhone and Android users, aiming to resolve persistent issues associated with cross-platform communication. While these improvements mark a substantial step forward in bridging the gap between iOS and Android messaging, the experience will not be entirely on par with Apple's proprietary iMessage service.
Users can anticipate a smoother texting experience, with the new features addressing common frustrations. However, certain functionalities still exclusive to iMessage will not be available for Android users, indicating that the complete convergence of cross-platform messaging is still a work in progress.
