Apple's iOS 27 Arrives: AI, New Features Galore

The final version of iOS 27 is expected to arrive around mid-September, likely on September 16, coinciding with new iPhone releases. This update introduces significant advancements, prominently featuring an enhanced Siri, now dubbed Siri AI, and Apple Intelligence, which are integrated across various device functions and applications to streamline daily tasks.

iOS 27 will be compatible with iPhone 11 and later models, including the iPhone SE (2nd generation and later). New iPhone models are also expected to launch with iOS 27 pre-installed. The update process involves a straightforward software update via the device's settings, typically taking about ten minutes.

Key new features include Siri AI, which can understand context from personal documents and the wider world, similar to large language models. Visual Intelligence allows users to get information by pointing their camera at objects, though this feature is not available in the EU at launch. Child Safety features have also been overhauled with easier setup and more granular controls.

Updates to core apps like Messages, Mail, Calendar, and Safari are included. Siri can now draft messages and emails in your style, and Safari will automatically group tabs by topic. Photo editing receives a boost with AI-enhanced tools like Clean Up, Extend, and Reframe, bringing Apple up to par with Android competitors.

Further enhancements include Smarter Shortcuts, allowing automatic creation based on descriptions, and an improved Image Playground for generating photorealistic images. Users can also customize the appearance of UI elements with Liquid Glass adjustments and finally access detailed equalizer settings for AirPods, allowing customization of bass, midrange, and treble.
