New Instagram Tool Edits Reels in Seconds

Instagram has globally launched 'First Draft,' a new one-tap editing tool designed to streamline the creation of Reels. This feature allows users to select multiple video clips from their camera roll and transform them into a fully edited Reel in less than 10 seconds.

The tool operates by analyzing the selected clips, identifying their most engaging segments, and trimming them down to a shorter duration. Instagram demonstrated how First Draft could condense nearly five minutes of footage into a concise 17-second Reel. The intention is not to automate all creative decisions but to handle repetitive editing tasks, providing creators with a solid starting point.

First Draft is integrated directly within Instagram's Reels editor, eliminating the need to export footage to external applications. This contrasts with Instagram's more advanced standalone editor, Edits. Instagram developed First Draft in response to creator feedback citing manual clip trimming as a tedious and frustrating process. The company highlighted its benefit for creators with accessibility needs, making short-form video production more efficient and less demanding.
