Accounts failing to adopt the 'AI-generated profile' label will experience demotion, restricting their content from being recommended to users outside their follower base. This measure impacts visibility on Reels, Explore, and feed suggestions. Instagram stated that this change was prompted by user feedback, highlighting a desire for greater transparency regarding AI-generated identities.
Previously, some AI accounts used an 'AI creator' label, which could be ambiguous. While Meta introduced methods to label AI-generated images two years ago, this marks a more direct approach to demoting accounts lacking proper AI disclosure. Instagram is also establishing an appeals process for accounts that believe they have been mislabeled.
The 'AI-generated profile' badge is currently designed to appear on mobile devices, with its availability on desktop versions yet to be confirmed. Instagram asserts that this labeling system is crucial for building audience trust and maintaining account eligibility for recommendations.
