India Shifts AI Focus to Real-World Impact

India is strategically pivoting its artificial intelligence focus from theoretical potential to tangible, real-world impact and large-scale adoption. This significant shift was underscored by Debj Ghosh, Distinguished Fellow at NITI Aayog, emphasizing the need to move beyond the mere promise of AI. The upcoming India AI Impact Summit 2026 in New Delhi is set to highlight these concentrated efforts.

Addressing potential job disruptions, Ghosh noted that while technological advancements always bring challenges, India has experience in managing workforce transitions. The current challenge lies in the accelerated pace of change, necessitating a focus on acquiring relevant skills. NITI Aayog is actively supporting micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in their digital journey through the DXEdge initiative.

This initiative, a collaboration with CII, AICTE, and the Ministry of MSME, aims to expedite digital transformation among MSMEs nationwide. Carnegie India is also contributing by hosting the Global Technology Summit as a pre-summit event for the AI Impact Summit 2026, further bolstering India's commitment to AI-driven progress.
