Hyundai is preparing to finalize its acquisition of Boston Dynamics by purchasing Softbank's remaining stake. This move follows Hyundai's initial 80 percent acquisition in 2020, which would grant the automaker complete control over the renowned robotics company.
With full ownership, Hyundai intends to establish an integrated AI robotics chain, focusing on the rapid development and commercialization of physical AI technologies. A key component of this strategy is the Atlas humanoid robot, which has undergone extensive development and testing.
Hyundai is collaborating with NVIDIA and Google DeepMind to advance Atlas. The company aims to commence production of the humanoid robot at its Georgia plant by 2028, with an ambitious goal of manufacturing up to 30,000 units annually. Initially, Atlas robots will be deployed for logistics and welding tasks, with plans to expand their capabilities to more complex manufacturing processes by 2030.
