Huawei Technologies Co. launched its latest foldable smartphone, the Pura X Max, on Monday. This new device unfolds to a 7.7-inch screen, offering a tablet-like experience, and retails for 10,999 yuan ($1,610). The company also introduced the Pura 90, with a starting price of 4,699 yuan. These launches come as Huawei faces increasing competition in China from Apple, whose iPhone sales have surged recently.
Huawei is working to maintain its market position by releasing devices with premium features, similar to Apple's strategy. Despite rivals like Xiaomi hiking prices due to memory chip costs, Huawei has largely kept its new launches at comparable price points. However, consumer business chief Richard Yu indicated that price increases might be necessary soon due to the memory chip crunch.
