23 Jun
Summary
- HPE's new Cray GX5000 rack features 81,920 CPU cores.
- It houses AMD's next-generation EPYC Venice processors.
- The system supports up to 1.28PB of memory capacity.

HPE has introduced its next-generation Cray GX5000 infrastructure, a revolutionary rack-scale system designed for extreme computing density. Unveiled at the HPE Discover 2026 event, this powerful hardware integrates numerous compute blades, advanced liquid cooling, networking, and memory resources within a single 42U rack.
A fully configured HPE Cray GX5000 rack can deliver an astonishing 81,920 CPU cores, leveraging AMD's upcoming EPYC Venice processors. Each rack supports up to 1.28PB of RAM, with each Venice processor connected to 16 memory channels for enhanced bandwidth.
The system features HPE's Cray GX250a compute blades, each housing eight AMD EPYC Venice processors, along with integrated cooling and storage solutions. Advanced Slingshot 400 networking is included, with future compatibility for Slingshot 800.
This high-density architecture is engineered to meet the rigorous demands of AI, scientific simulations, and large-scale LLM deployments. The significant cooling requirements, over 1.6MW capacity, reflect the escalating power densities in modern high-performance computing.
