Gay App Goose Accused of Using Fake AI Men
3 Jul
Summary
- Goose dating app reportedly uses AI-generated male profiles for advertising.
- Wired investigation found suspicious Instagram accounts created recently.
- Federal regulations prohibit false advertising and require ad disclosure.

A recent investigation by Wired has raised serious questions about the new gay dating app, Goose. The app, founded by Derek Chadwick, claims to be an "anti-algorithm" membership-only platform where users can "wave" at each other instead of matching. However, the investigation suggests Goose may be employing AI-generated male profiles for promotional purposes.
More than two dozen Instagram accounts, created in May or June 2026, reportedly posted infrequently and were flagged as potentially inauthentic. AI detection software indicated a high probability that these profiles were computer-generated. These accounts were allegedly used to solicit users via direct messages and add them to Close Friends stories to advertise Goose.
This practice could violate Federal Trade Commission regulations, which prohibit false advertising and mandate disclosures for social media advertisements. Goose representatives, including founder Derek Chadwick, have not yet responded to requests for comment regarding these allegations.
