- It's designed for one-handed typing, bringing keys to the user.
- The design is open source and can be built with a 3D printer.

Google Japan's Gboard team has introduced a novel desktop device: the Gboard Conveyor Belt Version. This unique contraption places its 116 keys onto four looping belts, designed to bring characters directly to a user's fingertip. This "Copernican turn" in keyboard design aims to revolutionize one-handed or one-finger typing, eliminating the need to move one's arm across the desk.
The design, named "Moving Keys," is available as open-source files on GitHub under an Apache 2.0 license. While the motorized version is documented, a Bluetooth-capable edition is still pending. This invention is the 15th in a series of unconventional keyboard proposals from Google Japan, which began as April Fools' gags in 2010 but have evolved into genuinely functional, albeit unusual, concepts.
