Googlebook OS: Tablet Edition Arrives!

Googlebook OS is expanding its reach with the upcoming introduction of a detachable, tablet-like device. This new form factor will join the existing range of clamshell and 2-in-1 devices, offering users more ways to interact with the Googlebook operating system.

Official confirmation of this development was revealed during the Android Dev Summit 2026. Google's Marisol Ryu stated that Googlebook now spans multiple large-screen formats, including the newly announced detachables.

While a Lenovo-made detachable device was previously leaked in July, it remains unclear which manufacturer will be first to release such a product. The design, reportedly featuring a detachable keyboard and kickstand, hints at a versatile user experience.

There are ongoing questions about Google's strategy, including whether Googlebook OS will eventually replace Android on high-end tablets. Currently, the Googlebook range includes five devices, with more manufacturers expected to join.
