- New Android XR smart glasses provide Gemini chat and real-time translation.
Google I/O 2026 was largely dedicated to artificial intelligence advancements. The company globally rolled out an AI-powered Search that moves beyond text autocompletion to anticipate user intent and accepts image, video, and Chrome tab inputs.
Gemini Spark, a new cloud-based digital assistant, was introduced. It can autonomously monitor credit card statements for hidden subscriptions, track school email updates, and compile notes into documents. Spark is designed to interact with third-party applications to complete tasks, with confirmation required for purchases.
Google also previewed future hardware, including Android XR smart glasses developed in collaboration with Samsung, Gentle Monster, and Warby Parker. These glasses will enable interactions with Gemini, real-time audio translation in the speaker's voice, and on-the-go photo capture.
To accommodate these new features, Google updated its AI subscription plans. A new mid-range tier was added at $100 per month, offering significantly higher usage limits and exclusive access to tools like Antigravity coding. The top-tier Ultra plan now includes even greater usage limits and access to Project Genie for creating 3D worlds from Street View imagery.
