3 Feb
Summary
- Google Home will now support smart buttons for automation triggers.
- New update adds conditional actions based on humidity and device status.
- The update also resolves the 'video not available' error for cameras.

Google Home is introducing support for smart buttons, allowing users to trigger automations with physical button presses. This feature, set to roll out with version 4.8 of the Google Home app, will enable single presses, multi-presses, and long-press actions as triggers.
This update provides an alternative to voice commands and app interfaces for controlling smart home devices. Users can now assign button presses to routines like opening blinds or playing music. The functionality, however, will not extend to Gemini-powered features for now.
Additionally, the Google Home app is gaining support for new conditional automations. These can be based on environmental factors like humidity levels or device statuses such as a robot vacuum being docked or a device's battery being low. Users can also assign specific colors or color temperatures to new smart lights.
