Summary

- Google denies allegations, stating a paid actor voiced the AI.
- Forensic analysis indicates a 53%-60% similarity to Greene's voice.

A lawsuit has been filed against Google and its parent company, Alphabet, by radio host David Greene. Greene alleges that his voice was used without authorization to train Google's AI-powered research assistant, NotebookLM. The suit claims that Google "stole" copies of his voice to develop and refine the AI's broadcasting capabilities.
NotebookLM offers features such as audio overviews, where users can generate AI podcasts from uploaded files. Greene stated that listeners began informing him of a voice similarity after the feature's release in the fall of 2024. He subsequently commissioned a forensic software company to analyze the voice in question.
According to the lawsuit, this analysis indicated a 53% to 60% confidence rating that Greene's voice was used in training NotebookLM's AI. Google has refuted these claims, with a spokesperson stating the voice is that of a paid professional actor. The company has not yet identified the actor involved in the project.
