Google has removed certain AI Overviews from its search results following an investigation that uncovered inaccurate and potentially harmful health information. The AI Overviews, designed to offer concise summaries, provided misleading data regarding crucial liver function blood tests. Experts raised serious concerns, highlighting that individuals might wrongly believe they are healthy, potentially delaying necessary medical attention for severe liver disease.

Following the investigation, Google has removed AI Overviews for specific queries about normal liver blood test ranges. While Google stated they do not comment on individual removals, they indicated a commitment to broad improvements and policy adherence. Liver health charities and patient advocacy groups welcomed the removal but stressed ongoing concerns about the reliability of AI-generated health content across various search terms.
