26 Feb
Summary
- Intrinsic, an AI robotics software firm, is now part of Google.
- Intrinsic will leverage Google DeepMind and Gemini AI models.
- The acquisition aims to make industrial robots more accessible.

Alphabet-owned Intrinsic, which develops AI software for industrial robots, has officially joined Google. This integration will see Intrinsic working closely with Google DeepMind, leveraging the power of Google's Gemini AI models and cloud infrastructure. Intrinsic, previously an independent entity spun out from Alphabet's X research division in 2021, aims to make robotics more accessible.
The company has a history of strategic acquisitions, including Vicarious and parts of Open Robotics. Despite a 20% workforce reduction in January 2023, Intrinsic launched its Flowstate software platform shortly after, designed for developers without deep robotics experience. The Intrinsic Vision AI model was released in late 2025, followed by a joint venture with Foxconn to advance general-purpose intelligent robots for manufacturing automation.
This move aligns with a broader industry trend recognizing physical AI as the next frontier for AI model advancement and monetization. Wendy Tan White, Intrinsic's CEO, expressed enthusiasm about combining Intrinsic's expertise with Google's AI capabilities to transform manufacturing economics and operations.
