Goa Bets Big on AI Skills for Future

Goa is charting a course to become a significant player in artificial intelligence and deep technology, looking beyond its traditional tourism appeal. The state's comprehensive AI and Deep-Tech Policy is nearing finalization after an inter-departmental review, with its official notification expected soon. This policy emphasizes responsible AI deployment, data privacy, and cybersecurity measures.

A key initiative is the planned AI Centre of Excellence, a collaborative effort involving prestigious institutions like IIT Goa, NIT Goa, and BITS Pilani Goa. The state has set an ambitious goal: by 2028, all technical graduates in Goa will have significant exposure to AI tools and applications. This push aims to cultivate an AI ecosystem that fosters innovation and addresses emerging risks, including deepfakes and digital fraud.

Alongside skilling programs, Goa is addressing the challenges posed by AI, including the threat of deepfakes. A proposed Deepfake Resilience Cell is under development to enhance awareness, detection, and response to AI-generated misinformation. Furthermore, the state is prioritizing child digital safety and establishing a Security Operations Centre to safeguard its digital infrastructure.
