The GL.iNet Slate 7 travel router offers robust connectivity, boasting up to 2.1 Gbps wireless speeds on the 5 GHz band. It incorporates WireGuard and OpenVPN for secure internet access, a crucial feature for travelers. The device operates on a customized OpenWRT 23.05 firmware, which supports over 5,000 plugins, allowing for significant user customization and advanced network control.
Despite its portability, the Slate 7's dual 2.5GbE LAN ports make it versatile enough for small office use. While it doesn't support the 6GHz band for full Wi-Fi 7 capabilities and cannot mesh with other GL.iNet routers, its value proposition remains strong. Priced at $170/£151/€174, it presents a compelling option for those prioritizing performance and security in a compact package.
