Gemini Adds Notebooks: Your AI, Your Sources
10 Apr
Summary
- Gemini now allows users to create and use notebooks directly within the chatbot.
- Notebooks act as personal knowledge bases, synchronizing between Gemini and NotebookLM.
- The feature is rolling out to AI Ultra, Pro, and Plus plans on the web.

Google's Gemini chatbot is receiving a significant update with the integration of notebooks, a feature that deepens its connection with NotebookLM. This new functionality allows users to create and manage personal knowledge bases directly within Gemini. These notebooks can contain various sources like files and past conversations, enabling Gemini to provide answers grounded solely in the user's provided context, rather than the open internet.
The integration ensures that notebooks are synchronized between Gemini and NotebookLM. This means content added to a notebook in one tool is immediately available in the other. Users can leverage this synchronization to generate outputs like Video Overviews or Infographics within NotebookLM using data from their Gemini notebooks. A dedicated "notebooks" section will appear in Gemini's side menu for easy access.
Initially, this feature is being rolled out to users on AI Ultra, Pro, and Plus plans via the web. Google plans to expand availability to mobile users, more countries across Europe, and eventually to free users in the coming weeks.
