The third-generation Garmin Marq series has been unveiled, presenting six luxury smartwatches that emphasize both premium aesthetics and advanced functionality. These timepieces are distinguished by their use of high-quality materials, including polished ceramic bezel inlays and full grade-5 titanium casings, achieved through sophisticated nano-moulding technology. This manufacturing process ingeniously integrates antennas within the metal frame, ensuring reliable GPS and Bluetooth connectivity. The Marq series is positioned as an ultra-premium offering, distinct from Garmin's more sport-focused lines like the Fenix or Forerunner.
Garmin's COO indicated that the Marq line is not intended as a generational heirloom like traditional mechanical watches, acknowledging the inherent lifespan limitations of smartwatches. However, user data suggests Garmin watches often outlast smartphones for many users. The design prioritizes durability and water resistance, incorporating inductive buttons for a sealed casing, while also offering mechanical clickers for tactile feedback, as seen in the Marq Adventurer. Common upgrades across the six models include 128GB of storage, an enhancement over previous high-end Garmin models, and a refined four-pin magnetic charging interface.
Technically, the Marq Gen 3 features 1.4-inch AMOLED screens with a peak brightness of 3000 nits and a borderless design. They share the Elevate V5 heart rate sensor found in other top Garmin devices, offering accurate readings. Battery life is rated at 18 days, or seven days with the always-on display. Like the Fenix 9 Pro, these watches also support 4G/LTE and satellite communication via an InReach subscription. The Marq series is aimed at consumers who prioritize luxury and style without compromising on Garmin's renowned performance features, commanding a price point significantly higher than standard sport watches.
