New Fenix 9 Boasts 3,000-nit OLED Display

The latest Garmin Fenix 9 series has been unveiled, starting at $999.99 and available for order on August 28. This new generation boasts a significantly brighter 3,000-nit OLED display, a notable leap from the Fenix 8's 1,000-nit capability. Notably, Garmin has opted against a microLED option this year, likely due to market demand and the performance of the new OLED.

Durability and weight reduction are key themes, with all Fenix 9 models now featuring part-titanium casings. The Pro variants further enhance this by using titanium for most main components. This change contributes to a lighter feel and potentially more reliable heart rate readings, especially in the larger 51mm sizes.

Beyond the standard and Pro models, solar charging returns for the Pro Solar variants, featuring power-saving MIP screens. These offer impressive battery life, with the 47mm version lasting up to 34 days and the 51mm up to 57 days with sufficient sunlight. Pro models also offer optional InReach satellite connectivity for an additional $100, enabling messaging and SOS alerts in remote areas.

Internal upgrades include doubling storage to 64GB and an increase in RAM, aimed at improving map navigation speed and overall performance. Software enhancements like the 'Garmin Epic' feature for curating multi-day activities are also introduced, alongside improved indoor rowing metrics.
