Galaxy Z Fold 8: Crease-Free Illusion Shattered?

Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 8, initially praised for its nearly invisible crease, has revealed a different reality after seven days of use. Daily folding, extensive screen time, and pocket storage have led to visible creasing, challenging the expectation of a permanent crease-free experience. Engineers attribute this to "plastic deformation," where the display layers, under continuous stress and heat, lose their initial tautness.

While the titanium alloy film and reinforced back plate offer durability, the screen's materials still succumb to the physics of folding. This results in the display settling into the hinge's cavity, making the previously imperceptible crease noticeable, particularly under harsh lighting. This phenomenon is not unique to the Z Fold 8, having been observed in other foldable devices.

Despite the reappearance of the crease, it is not considered a dealbreaker by the reviewer. The foldable's passport-size form factor remains a significant advantage, being pocketable and well-suited for content consumption. The crease is predominantly a visual artifact, subtly felt rather than overtly impacting functionality.
