Framework's 2025 Laptop 16 Boasts Modular GPU and AI-Powered CPU Upgrades

In November 2025, Framework has once again delivered on its promise of modular, upgradeable, and user-repairable laptops. The 2025 version of the Framework Laptop 16 comes with a range of improvements, including new AMD Ryzen AI CPU options, Wi-Fi 7 connectivity, a more powerful USB-C charger, and a redesigned cooling system.

The most significant upgrade is the inclusion of a user-replaceable Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 graphics card. Framework had previously called upgradable graphics the "holy grail," and it has now delivered on that promise. Benchmarks show a 34-64% increase in graphics performance compared to the previous AMD Radeon RX 7700S module.

The new Laptop 16 also features a more rigid top cover lid, a second-gen 1080p webcam, and a firmware update to enable Nvidia G-Sync support on the display. However, owners of the first-gen Laptop 16 will need to spend an additional $279 to upgrade the display if they want to take full advantage of the new GPU.

The eight-core Ryzen AI 7 350 mainboard offers modest performance gains over the previous Ryzen 9 7940HS, with improvements of up to 21% in some benchmarks. There is also a 12-core Ryzen AI 7 370 option available.

While the 2025 Laptop 16 represents a significant step forward, it still has some areas that need refinement. The design feels a bit unfinished, with creaks and misaligned components. Framework is working to improve the stability and reliability of the new model, which experienced several crashes during the initial review period.
