- Features include haptic trackpads and optional touchscreens.
- Expect up to 20 hours of battery life on new models.

Framework has launched its new Laptop 13 Pro, emphasizing user choice by offering Linux pre-installed. This move allows users to bypass Windows entirely. The "Pro" designation brings improved specifications, including a switch from a mechanical trackpad to a haptic touchpad and the introduction of an optional touchscreen. Users can still opt for no OS or Windows 11, but a Ubuntu Linux version is available for $1,500.
The Laptop 13 Pro is powered by Intel's Core Ultra Series 3 processors or older AMD Ryzen 300 series chips, promising up to 20 hours of battery life. The Framework Laptop 16 also sees updates, such as a haptic trackpad and a one-piece keyboard with a numpad. Additionally, an OCuLink Dev Kit is available for the Laptop 16, enabling external GPU usage.
Framework CEO Dev Patel highlighted the PC industry's trend of limiting user ownership, positioning Linux as a way to counter rising component costs. Pre-built Windows 11 configurations start at $1,700, while DIY kits begin at $1,200. Despite the appeal to tech enthusiasts, broader adoption may depend on user comfort with Linux compatibility.
