RAM Prices Surge: Framework Joins Hike Amid Shortage
13 Jan
Summary
- Framework desktop PCs now cost more due to rising RAM prices.
- AI companies are significantly contributing to the memory shortage.
- The memory shortage is predicted to persist until 2027.

Framework has announced price adjustments for its desktop PCs, with the 32GB RAM model now starting at $1,139, a rise from $1,099. This increase is a direct response to the escalating costs of LPDDR5x RAM modules from suppliers.
The company, which had previously raised RAM module prices, acknowledged the necessity of this adjustment to offset increased component expenses. Higher-spec configurations, such as those with 64GB and 128GB of RAM, have also seen corresponding price hikes.
This situation is exacerbated by a widespread memory shortage, fueled by significant demand from AI companies. Analysts predict this scarcity could continue until 2027, affecting numerous device manufacturers like Raspberry Pi, Dell, HP, Xiaomi, Acer, and Asus, many of whom have already signaled or implemented price increases.
