Fitbit's AI Coach, powered by Gemini AI, is introducing significant upgrades for its Premium subscribers across various platforms. These enhancements focus on improving sleep tracking accuracy, with a notable 15% increase in sleep stage detection. The AI can now better distinguish between attempts to sleep and actual sleep, detecting naps and sleep interruptions for a more comprehensive analysis.
These updates contribute to a revamped Sleep Score that considers sleep onset duration. In the coming weeks, users will benefit from more informed insights and recommendations for better sleep hygiene. Additionally, beginning in April, U.S. subscribers will have the option to link their personal medical records, including medications and lab results, within the Fitbit app.
This medical record integration, developed with B. Well Connected Health and Clear, allows Fitbit's Coach to offer highly personalized guidance. Users can securely share their health data, including summaries, with providers or family using a QR code or Smart Health Link URL. This feature requires provider participation and emphasizes user control over data sharing and privacy, assuring records will not be used for advertising.
Google is also investing in health research, exploring areas like predicting insulin resistance and hypertension. In April, Fitbit members in the public preview can also connect continuous glucose monitors via Health Connect, enabling the Coach to analyze how workouts and meals impact glucose levels. It's important to note that AI health coaches are supplementary tools and not replacements for professional medical advice or diagnosis.
