Audiophile brand Fiio has introduced its new FT15 planar magnetic headphones, building on the success of the FT5 model. These wired, open-back headphones feature a significantly upgraded 101mm driver that is 86.7% thinner than its predecessor, utilizing a full-face diamond coating for enhanced stiffness and improved sound response.
The Fiio FT15 headphones are designed for a lighter, more comfortable experience, weighing 425g – a reduction of 31g from the FT5. This is achieved through the use of a carbon fiber headband and natural wood earcups. The package includes multiple earpad sets and various adaptors for seamless integration into diverse hi-fi setups.
Launching immediately, the Fiio FT15 headphones are priced at $499 / £499 (approximately AU$999), a slight increase from the FT5's $449 / £429. Their sensitivity (95dB/mW) and 24 ohms impedance make them compatible with a wide range of audio sources, including smaller dongles and portable players. Fiio's ongoing release of audio technology, such as the KA15 DAC dongle, suggests a strategy to complement these new headphones.
