Exein, an Italian cybersecurity startup, has secured a significant $270 million in funding, valuing the company at $1.7 billion and marking its entry into the unicorn club. This funding round, led by Headline, will accelerate Exein's mission to provide robust cybersecurity for physical AI and connected devices.
The company's latest product, Photon, offers runtime security designed to thwart attacks directly at the kernel level. Since its inception in 2018, Exein has collaborated closely with manufacturers, securing more than two billion devices across vital industries such as aerospace, automotive, and healthcare.
With the projected rise of AI-powered devices, including robots and self-driving cars, Exein is developing a foundational security model for Physical AI. The fresh capital will also support expansion into the U.S. and Asia Pacific, which already accounts for half of its revenue, and will be used for strategic mergers and acquisitions.
The EU's Cyber Resilience Act, set to fully take effect in December 2027, mandates that all digital products be secure from cyber threats, creating a favorable regulatory environment for Exein's offerings.
