On November 13th, 2025, Swedish telecom gear maker Ericsson announced the establishment of a new Radio Access Network (RAN) Software Research & Development (R&D) unit in Bengaluru, India. This facility will initially focus on developing advanced 5G features for Ericsson's 5G baseband technology.
The move is part of Ericsson's broader R&D expansion in Bengaluru and India, which includes enhancing its capabilities in Application-Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) development. Ericsson's India operations now span across various telecom domains, including Transport, Packet Core, OSS, BSS, Cloud, and advanced AI technologies.
According to Nitin Bansal, Managing Director of Ericsson India and Head of Network solutions for South East Asia, Oceania and India, this new R&D center represents a significant step towards strengthening Ericsson's research and development operations in the country. Bansal emphasized that the facility will leverage India's software talent while also contributing to building the knowledge base and telecom ecosystem in the nation.
