Egypt Unveils First Locally Made Industrial Robot
25 Sep
Summary
- Egypt's first locally developed industrial robot uses 80% local components.
- The robotic arm is now integrated into a packaging line for an Egyptian manufacturer.
- This initiative supports Egypt's strategy to expand domestic manufacturing.
Egypt has successfully developed and launched its first industrial robot, a significant stride towards greater manufacturing self-sufficiency and reduced dependence on foreign technology. This pioneering robotic arm is constructed with about 80% locally sourced components, with ongoing efforts to increase this to 90% through domestic motor production.
Industry Minister Khaled Hashem officially presented the robot, emphasizing that localizing machinery production is a cornerstone of Egypt's industrial strategy. The 'Made in Egypt' designation aims to showcase the nation's technological development capabilities and its integration into global supply chains.
The robot is already proving its utility commercially, being deployed on packaging equipment for the Egyptian firm QB. The Ministry of Trade and Industry plans to monitor its performance to encourage broader adoption by domestic factories.
This development places Egypt alongside other African nations advancing in industrial robotics. Tunisia's TIRA Robots and companies like XPERT-MECA also contribute to local automation solutions. Countries such as South Africa, Morocco, and Tunisia have established industrial automation sectors, often integrating robots from international manufacturers, while Morocco's MTS Robotics specializes in developing automated systems.
