Instagram lets you edit posted carousels
24 Mar
Summary
- Users can now rearrange photos and videos in carousels after posting.
- This new feature only applies to newly uploaded carousel posts.
- Adding new photos to existing carousels remains unavailable.

Instagram has rolled out a significant new feature that permits users to reorder photos and videos within carousel posts after publication. This update addresses a long-standing user request and was officially confirmed by Instagram's head, Adam Mosseri.
To utilize this functionality, users can select the 'Edit' option on a post and then drag-and-drop media to their desired sequence. This editing capability is available multiple times without a time limit. However, it is important to note that this convenient reordering feature only applies to carousels uploaded after the update was announced on Monday.
Unfortunately, older carousel posts remain uneditable in terms of media order; only deletion of individual items is possible. Furthermore, another frequently requested feature—the ability to add new photos or videos to an existing carousel—is still not available on the platform. This update comes amidst several recent additions, including Reels algorithm control, but contrasts with the recent decision to discontinue end-to-end encryption for direct messages after May 8.
